Adding what is missing

What can you do in a situation where you seem to be dancing circles around each other, or where you keep ending up in the same place? How can you finally get past the situation?

The answer is often found in that which is not there. By adding what is missing or excluded, in terms of sound or skill, the movement becomes systemically complete. It is a conscious intervention that strengthens the whole.

Adding what is missing is a skill that sometimes takes courage, because it can be unconventional and unruly. It requires you as a leader to trust your actions without fear of losing your position. You add another voice, a voice that does not necessarily represent you or something you are familiar with, but a voice that makes something clear at a time when this is desperately needed. As a result, the whole ultimately becomes stronger.

On a systemic level, you can feel where the boundary of the system is. That is where the growth is, at the edges. Not in the middle. If the atmosphere is listless, you can stir things up. If it is emotionless, you can add emotion. You provide an impulse to which there is an immediate reaction – whether that is applause or resistance. Either way, movement is created immediately.
